I took lessons since I was little; I used to pay for my own singing lessons and take myself. Just take the bus when I was a kid and go. - Rebecca Ferguson

What to expect from singing lessons:
Singing lessons are so much fun. (It's not just me that thinks that either). I like to balance having a good time with learning all things about the voice. You will learn to sing loud, strong and proud while with having the tools to keep your voice as healthy as possible. Always!
Using the piano, I play many different scale patterns to help your voice work through those pesky breaks and cracks that always seem to pop up in the middle of your voice.
Vocal lessons with me will help you find that strength and power you've been searching for in your sound. You will have more control over your voice and give you good singing habits that can support you forever.

How to Get the Most out of Singing Lessons
Here are a few ideas to help you get the very most out of our time together.
What You Need to Know!
Each singing lesson with me should be AUDIO recorded. Even though it can suck to go back and listen to yourself, it is how you are going to practice the vocal work we do in your lessons. And it is also a super cool way for you to hear your improvement. I LOVE having my clients go back periodically to their first few lessons to hear how much better they sound. It really helps give you a sense of where you started and where you are now.
For in person lessons, the easiest way to do that is to use your smartphone. If you have an IPhone we use Voice Memos app and if you have an Android you will want to download a free voice recorder.
For online lessons, you will need either a laptop, tablet or phone with a working camera (so I can see you and you can see me). You will need access to the internet or be prepared to use the data from your phone plan. It would be great if you can find a quiet place in your house, so you will feel comfortable making all our fun sounds, and not be distracted with dirty dishes or your cat who wants your attention.
Some people have let me know that having a separate tablet/laptop/phone helps when it comes to recording our lesson together, as well as playing the song you are working on. So if that's an option we can use the other device to pull up your song or the lyrics.
Bring Songs to Your Lessons
Put together a play list using your favorite music source. Put together several playlists. Separate by genre, by year, by artist, by favorite songs. And then add ONE more titled, Songs Doreene Wants Me To Work On.
Having a lot of songs at the ready will save us time. Come prepared to your Singing Lesson with Songs!
Practice Your Scales
Practice your Vocal Scales 4-5 times a week. The scales are what you will record in our time together. Repetition of these scales is what will give your voice the opportunity to grow, strengthen and develop. The more your practice what we work on, the quicker your will see/hear/feel the difference in your voice.
Come with questions!
I could talk about singing and how the voice works all day. If you are curious, or don't understand what we are doing, or how it is important to your voice, lets discuss it. The more you understand about how the voice and the body work, the more you can be a part of the process.
