What to Expect in Lessons
As a singer coming into my studio, what would you expect your singing/voice lesson to look like? While singing lessons can be similar between teachers, we are not all the same.
Vocal Technique
I believe that your voice and its health comes first. That means I work the most on vocal technique. Your muscles in your throat already know how they are supposed to work, but unfortunately our brains somehow get involved and try to make things happen that are not always healthy.
This often happens trying to make a sound ‘louder’ or ‘stronger’ or ‘projecting’ or even simply trying to make your voice sound like someone you admire. When you try to make your voice do something, we tend to overuse the muscles or even use them in the wrong way and that’s where damage can happen.
No Pain No Gain? HECK NO
And I am totally against hurting your voice. You should be able to sing as high and as loud and as strong as you can without hurting yourself. And sometimes that takes a teacher to show you how to use those muscles the right way. (hint hint)
We work WITH your body, not against it. Using scales, sounds, breathing, vowels and more, we help you find relaxation. We help you find strength, we help you find longevity all without pain, strain, cracking or tiredness. Then with those tools we work them through your songs and find the same ease in the song as you find in the scales.
Singing Safety First
So in our singing lessons plan on discovering a whole new way to use your voice. Getting rid of any bad vocal habits and instilling a healthier and better way to sing. It’s then you find that you have more voice to give and more artistry and style.
